My Sister's (Handmade) Birthday Dress

It was Lynnike's birthday a few months back. Lynnike is my younger sister (only by one year and two weeks!) and best friend. She loves fashion also, so guess what her birthday present request was... a HANDMADE party dress!

She wanted a dress that was not only sexy but unique... one that no one else would have. So she pondered with a few ideas that she had in mind and then gave them to me to tweak. Lynnike is like me. Quite a bit actually. We like a lot of the same things. I LOVE bold colours and prints. So does she. Thinking along these lines, we went fabric shopping. We were almost on the verge of calling it a day when Lynnike found this gorgeous black fabric with a multicoloured square and triangle print all over it. She knew that was the fabric instantly. I loved it too and if it wasn't her birthday present and i'd seen it first, I would have kept it for myself!

She knew that she definitely wanted part or all of the sides of the dress cut out and she also wanted elastic in it somewhere. So I got designing and came up with this little beauty. We chose a strapless, sweetheart neckline and as it was a party dress to go clubbing in,  she decided on a short hemline. In the end, I decided to cut out all of the sides of the dress so that there was a slim panel showing skin and worked elastic into it by creating criss cross sections within the panels.

I also made the neon pink earrings :)

Oh! I also made myself a quick little ensemble too! Why not hey! I made a strapless bandeau black and red colour block short dress. Ok a micro mini dress! I didn't intend for it to be this short but I kept snipping away at the hem line and the final snip was at this length so I couldn't do anything about it! I loved the black frill jersey fabric. It was so pretty and when I moved the frills moved too! I chose to team it up with gold accessories although looking back I wish I wore a thinner belt.
